Time-to-Digital Converter Histogramming Unit
Time digitiser and histogramming unit for fast spectrum acquisition in time-of-flight mass spectrometry, ion or photon counting.
The Kore Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC) is a fast timing unit with on-board histogramming in hardware. The unit is optimised for building arrival time histograms with the signal received from a digital pre-amplifier mounted close to a particle detector. With 2 ns timing resolution and 2 ns dead time, the unit is ideally suited to high data rates. The unit issues or receives a cycle start signal at pre-set intervals and waits to receive timing pulses from a detector. These timing pulses are added to a histogram in the TDC hardware. This histogram is read directly at the end of an experiment by the host computer.
- Negligible data loss, even at 500 MHz burst rate, giving accurate results.
- Fast on-board time histogramming at a minimum of 5MHz : spectrum transferred to a PC at up to 1 Mbyte/second.
- Easy interfacing to a PC via PCMCIA adaptor, IBM PC ISA bus adaptor or USB.
- Up to 300k data acquisition cycles per second.
- Programmable pulse suppression period to remove switching noise
- Very low dead time(2nsec).
- More than 1,000 counts per cycle.
Applications include, Time-of-flight mass spectrometry, time-of-flight ion scattering, LIDAR, and photon counting.
