August 2004: BURLE Electro-Optics Announces 40 mm Diameter BiPolar Time-of-Flight Detector for Mass Spectrometry Applications
Sturbridge, MA - August 20, 2004 - BURLE Electro-Optics, Inc. announces its new patented high performance, high speed BiPolar Time-of-Flight detector for Mass Spectrometry applications. This detector offers levels of sensitivity, temporal resolution, dynamic range, and high mass detection currently not available in the market. In addition to its large 40 mm diameter (12.5 cm2) detection area and up to 10 kV post acceleration, it offers BURLE's exclusive Extended Dynamic Range™ small pore Microchannel Plates (MCPs) with high channel densities.
The new detector is enclosed in a low-profile assembly combining a highly sensitive Microchannel Plate and electro-optically isolated output signal. It is available separately for flight tube mounting, unmounted, or on a conflat flange.
A unique feature of the new detector is its flat MCP input surface. It can be biased up to ±10 kV to enhance detection of high mass, positive or negative ions. In addition, a proprietary enhancement coating is added to the ion conversion surface for greater conversion efficiency. The detector offers system gains up to 107 and excellent temporal bi-polar resolution.
BURLE's Quick-Fit® replaceable MCP cartridge makes maintenance easy and fast. These cartridges include a Long-Life™ MCP and a high voltage transmission grid mounted in a rugged module. The module can be replaced easily and quickly with minimum downtime.
The addition of BURLE Electro-Optics' patented 40 mm BiPolar Time-of-Flight Detector rounds out the largest selection of Time-of-Flight detectors available in the world with 18 models in sizes ranging from 8 mm to 40 mm.
February 2004: Electronic Imaging Detector System Provides Visual Images of Charged Particles and Ultraviolet Radiation
Sturbridge, MA - February 11, 2004 - BURLE Electro-Optics, Inc. announces the development and offering of a new detector system that allows experimenters and designers to determine the location, shape, and size of a charged particle or UV beam. It is ideal for ion beam profiling in instrument design or high-energy physics experiments and verifying ion optic models.
BURLE's new Electronic Imaging Detector System consists of a 25mm active diameter Microchannel plate detector mounted on a conflat flange. The Microchannel plates (MCPs) detects and amplify ion or photon events by producing a shower of electrons in the position of the input event. The resultant shower of electrons is converted to an optical image by a fiber optic phosphor screen. This image is then captured by an integral CCD camera and then sent to a frame grabber allowing the user to manipulate and archive frames to their PC.
The entire system includes the detector assembly with the CCD camera already mounted, the frame grabber board (for installation into your PC) and software.
October 2003: BURLE Announces 40mm Diameter Advanced Performance TOF Detector for Mass Spec Applications
Sturbridge, MA - October 24, 2003 - BURLE Electro-Optics, Inc. announces the development and offering of its new 40mm diameter Advanced Performance Time-of- Flight Detector. The new patented detector's unique small pore 5-micron MCP technology combined with a larger collection area offers higher performance, improved mass resolution and fast timing for TOF Mass Spectrometry.
Of special interest to instrument designers is the detector's large format, 650 ps pulse width and 300 ps rise time for previously unobtainable levels of mass resolution, dynamic range, and detection sensitivity that is ten times that of conventional MCPs. In addition, the detector's flat surface provides uniform ion conversion while the higher aspect ratio of the MCPs produce gains in excess of 107.
The new detector is housed in BURLE's Quick-Fit® replaceable MCP cartridge to make maintenance fast and easy. Quick-Fit® cartridges include a set of two Chevron™ Long-Life™ small pore MCPs and a high voltage transmission grid mounted in a rugged module with an integral 50 Ω impedance matched conical anode. This module is available separately or mounted on a 6" conflat flange.
The addition of BURLE Electro-Optics' patented 40mm Time-of-Flight Detector rounds out the largest selection of detectors available in the world with 17 models in sizes ranging from 8mm to 40mm.
January 2003: 5904 MAGNUM® Electron Multiplier Enhances Performance of Varian Instruments
Sturbridge, MA - January 16, 2003 - BURLE Electro-Optics, Inc. announces the addition of the 5904 MAGNUM® Electron Multiplier to its extensive line of compact replacement electron multipliers. The 5904 is designed specifically for Varian Instruments, including Varian 1200 GC/LC-MS and users of the discontinued Bear Cub 800.
The rugged 5904 MAGNUM® Electron Multiplier with integral self biasing anode, offers higher performance, improved linearity over a wider current range, and lower noise compared to OEM electron multipliers. Its six channel design provides longer detector life and low noise < 1pA dark current, high gain analog operation is minimum 10 million and offers stable operation even at elevated temperatures up to 200 °C.
MAGNUM® Electron Multipliers utilize BURLE's exclusive Spiraltron™ technology that provides the highest dynamic range in the industry while offering increased gain stability and near elimination of feedback noise. Thanks to BURLE's proprietary glass formulation, it also has the longest detector life available in the industry.
The 5904 MAGNUM® Electron Multiplier cartridge is an easy-to-install, plug and play replacement that fits directly into the Varian mounting assembly. Its one- piece construction eliminates fastener and connection problems for tool-free, fast, and inexpensive installation.
